I know I needed this time off to rest and rejuvenate, but I’m bored as Hell. I didn’t go anywhere, I’m sitting at the homestead.
Being that I’m on vacation until Saturday when I go back to work, I’ll be pulling out stories from my old restaurants. Blasts from the past.
I didn’t realize how much I’d miss working. If it wasn’t a paid vacation, I’d have never taken it.

Ribeye, you are a man after my own heart. I have to be forced to take a vacation too. I’m in my late 50s, and I’ve been getting questions from people who want to know if I am ready to retire. No way! I’d be bored in a minute.

Ah, the irony. On one hand it’s annoying to be starting a new semester, but on the other it’s a relief to know what to do all day :)
I can recommend a couple of good books/movies, if you’re interested. Otherwise, you could always repaint your kitchen or something…

All work and no play makes the raging server a very dull boy….get out and let rip….live it up man! You deserve it…..

Hope you enjoy your vacation. We all need and deserve one. I’m taking 10 days off in June for a week long cruise with my daughter, sister and niece. My boss has told me I cannot have off because Father’s day falls in middle of it. I said um ok. Cruise is paid for and cannot be changed. It’s nice to know my restaurant will die without me. *rolls her eyes*

NO, I let SOME things go if the service was wonderful such as serving me refills without me ordering them or being asked if I wanted them or like one time I tipped 20% to this waitress that made 2 mistakes, BECAUSE she said “I’m SO SORRY ABOUT THAT”, instead of no sorry or “Sorry about that.” First I didn’t have the onions I had ordered on my OPEN-FACED burger that SHE brought out, which my husband fixed that situation right away, because he didn’t care if he had onions or not. Second thing, my side of ranch for my fries wasn’t there. For 1 missing side of ranch, this waitress said she was SO sorry. For profusley apologizing over a minor screw up makes up for the mistake considering she fixed it IMMEDIATELY. So sometimes I DO LET STUFF GO. It depends on the situation of what the mistake is and how it is handled.
THis was posted by springs. So what is, you either want the servers to give u refills without asking or you do???

It’s sad when we can’t relax on vacation. That’s how mental this line of work is. Makes us high.

Hey Ribeye, I want you to know that I stumbled across your blog from Insane Waiter, and I think it is, by far, the best serving blog I have ever read. You’re a great writer, your stories are informative and entertaining, and there have been plenty of times you have made me laugh right out loud. I went through and read your entire blog, and I just don’t understand some people. I am a very good tipper, I love the service industry, and I just don’t get people who refuse to tip. I hate going out to eat with my mother in law because she’s rude and demanding to servers and treats them like shit. I always compensate for this. It actually works out for me. Whenever I go into my favorite restaurant (I won’t say which one, for fear of ridicule, lol) my check is usually between 25-35 bucks. I NEVER tip less than $8.00 at least. I know that servers work hard for a living…I used to do it a long time ago and I loved it, I absolutely loved it…and I respect the work you do. So please know that there are people out there who have no problem compensating you for a job well done. I respect the hell out of you! Please keep writing.
Springs, I’ve been following you and your comments, and I personally think you are just plain fucking nuts, not to mention a little obsessed. Please find something else to do with your time. You scare me.

Sheesh I was hoping Springs had died. And what pray tell does your posting have to do with the topic? This is what is known as a rhetorical question because it doesn’t.

Springs!! HAHAHAHA!!! That stupid woman. I think she got aggrivated that we kept proving her wrong & just gave up. She was in a losing battle.

“So what is, you either want the servers to give u refills without asking or you do???”
I want servers to let me do the ordering, whether if THEY ask me themselves or if I ask, but NEVER to do the ordering for me, EVER. That’s just WRONG to order for a customer. I let that go if the service was great otherwise, but if it sucked, points off for that. In other words, if the ONLY thing they did wrong was to get me a drink without either asking me or ordering it, I will not take off for it. If they have made other mistakes, you bet I will count off for it. Get it? It’s NOT my server’s place to make a “DECISION” that is ONLY “MINE” to make, NOT THEIRS. Just Friday, I ordered coke, then a dr. pepper. My husband has went from a cup of coffee to diet coke and even diet coke to water. The server should NEVER, EVER ASSUME a customer wants something, because it’s NOT their right to place an order for their customer unless that customer gives them permission to do so.
