It’s a little late in the game, but I realized that the last poll that I’ve posted was still going. I have to post a new one, and when I get done with the next post you’ll understand why I’m putting up the new one because they go together. It’ll be up sometime tomorrow.

Interesting poll. I feel I need to comment on my response. which was it is not the servers place. With the proviso that the woman is not visibly under the influence, which would be illegal regardless. But I go back to the case of the red robin a few years ago where the waitress refused a glass of wine to a woman 8 or 9 mos pregnant whos OB/Gyn told her to go get a glass of wine cause she was stressing out. I felt in that case the server was wrong and being self righteous.

Eeeeeek I’ve been on both sides of that poll! In our alcohol training course, we were taught that it is illegal to discriminate against pregnant women when serving, ie you have to serve them. I’ve served pregnant women before and felt uncomfortable. Then I got pregnant. All of my doctors said that one glass of wine / one beer is fine, with a meal. ONE. AND ONLY ONE.
That said, I absolutely won’t serve a pregnant woman drink after drink. Won’t do it. I’ll get someone else to, but I will not be partially responsible for hurting a defenseless child.

I’m heartened to know that most of your blog readers would speak up if they saw another person abusing a server. However, the people who want to “watch the show” are sick and sadistic. I bet they think torturing animals is pretty entertaining too. :(

While at work, I was told about this website mainly because we were discussing some of the unfortunate names we come across. Here’s one to add to your list: Mary Juana. Not kidding. Another favorite I’ve heard of: Teekeela (pronounced tequila). Love the site!

Something happened at work last night that falls under this umbrella. The shit giving/taking experience one.
A friend of mine who is a lot younger than I has regaled us with stories of how abusive her parents are. They have been know to throw all her belongings in yard while she is at work, toss her out of house, call her and cuss her out. Just really stupid mind control abuse. She is 20.
Anyways she is a fellow server, used to work with me but now works at another restaurant same chain. Her parents and she came in last night. Her dad was an ass from get go. His attitude, demeanor, everything.
Micros was not calibrated and the wrong meat showed up on his order. Yes I should have checked it. Takes 4 minutes for his correct meat to cook. I left his vegetables which were in side dishes for him to eat while his meat was being prepared. He threw a temper tantrum. Crossed his arms. Whining how he cannot possibly eat his veggies if his meat is not there. He made me take all 3 veggies away and bring fresh ones with his meat. Management ended up comping 2 out of 3 meals. Why? Only his meat was screwed up and he is one who chose not to eat while his family ate.
Oh and his daughter, my “friend” just sat there watching everything. And I of course got no f’ing tip. When I got home last night I left a comment on her Myspace about what a dick her dad is…. haha
