Round Table: The Return

RoundTable - Service Industry Blog Carnival

It’s been such a long time since the last Round Table post, I almost don’t know where to start other than asking for other people that are willing to host it for a week. I’m going to try, note the word ‘try’, to do it each week but I’m not going to promise it.

I apologize to everyone who participated before for not keeping in contact with you, and I hope that you’ll be willing to participate again. You all have my e-mail if you want to be a part of this carnival.

Now, let’s get this party started!

Coffee seems to be key for the old folks in Ole’ Ireland, and when they get to drinking it they apparently just don’t shut up.  I just wish I had the patience Manuel does.

Ali has had her last night at “The Bar”, and we’re all going to miss the stories that came from it.  Congratulations, Ali, on getting out, and enjoy the drinks when you are there off the clock!

Bitchy Waitress of At least call me Miss… is also contemplating “retirement”…at least from her current place.  Me too, honey, me too…

Lobster Boy’s eyes were opened just like everyone else’s last week while watching the Olympics…womens Coochie-nastics…I mean Gymnastics.  Why do they show off that much??

Everyone needs to read this before they interview anywhere:  bitter gives the key of what not to wear at your interview.  Many of these rules should be applied to everyday life with some people….

The times they are a-changin at the coffee hut, barista brat has gotten an evaluation and the bosses have spoken:  the brat isn’t a team player?

Chowder has been dealing with a rodent…make that “was” dealing with a rodent.  See what happened to the rodent…

The Waiter at WaiterRant, for those of you who didn’t know, has written a book.  At some point, I’ll have a book written too, but it’s going to be a bit different than his…at least I hope it is.  That’s why I haven’t bought it yet, mainly because I don’t want any of his stuff osmosing into my mind when I write mine.  Believe me, I want to read it because I love his stuff, so everyone go buy his book, and read about his talk with the limo man at the site!

At beentheredonethat, you can get some valuable tips on opening a restaurant and keeping it from someone who knows.

I don’t really know why someone would want bourbon with an infusion of bacon, but the idea of it confused The Barmaid, just like it would have me.  I’ve never even heard of it.

Finally, here at RagingServer.com, I’ve started working behind the bar…sometimes.  Here’s what happened on my first solo shift…

That’s all for this week, guys and gals.  I’m out of practice with RoundTable posts, so this quality just isn’t as good as some of them I’ve had but my writing isn’t the issue, it’s all these other awesome sites and stories!

E-mail me if you want to host, or want to have your site included at some point, and I’ll be glad to include you.  Until then,

Ribeye

Round Table, the Return…vol. 20

Round Table 4 Comments »

Hey everyone, and welcome to the return edition of The Round Table.  After a somewhat extended respite, I’m taking up responsibility for it again, and it’s once again your weekly stop for all things service.  Let’s just jump right in without wasting time, shall we?

Manuel over at WellDoneFillet is mourning the loss of our summer business due to the lure of the BleurghBQ.  Customers vanish from the restaurants when summer rolls around wishing to grill and drink rather than sit and be served.

Ryan of IServeIdiots has finally met a match for Springs1.  Her name is the Noodle Nazi.  She shares, she eats, she bitches when her crotch spawn doesn’t get the final two noodles of the already skimpy dinner.  I’d have lost it.

Restaurant Gal reminds us that sometimes we have to take some time to ourselves.  Remember to “Pace Yourself, Dahling!

Sometimes working in a new restaurant just isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, as the Insane Waiter makes sure to let us know.  In his own words, “The Grass is not always Greener.”  Chef screaming over a side not rung in on time is just not something we should have to deal with.

And I had the audacity to assume only I got to serve people with Ghetto Names from HellLobster Boy got to meet a kid named Magnum….named for the “wardrobe malfunction” that led to his conception.

I was already terrified of Dentists, and now waiterrant has made it even worse with his dental experience….somebody shoot me now so I don’t have to go through it later.

Sometimes things just don’t go the way the universe usually designs them.  Sometimes the women tip women better than the men do.  That’s what happened at El Vermino Blvd. recently, and it made me wonder why I don’t get good tippers like that anymore.

Bitchy Waitress has now learned that restaurants don’t care if you’ve gone through their trainer certification.  If you seem to be somewhat skilled, you’re training new hires.  That’s what happened to her recently, and she tells the short tale for us all.

Finally, here at RagingServer.com, I tell of a General Manager who, in his small mind, believes himself to be more skilled on an expo line than a server.  We all know better.

Well everyone, it’s been a long time coming, but I did manage to get you all a Round Table up this week after all! Look forward to more in the future, even if I’m the only one who is posting it!

Round Table vol. 19

RoundTable - Service Industry Blog Carnival

Welcome back to RagingServer.com for the 19th edition of The Round Table. I’ll be your host this week. I’m again going to have to redo the schedule, being that some of the people who are scheduled to host haven’t blogged in months. Oh well, I enjoy doing it. I would like other participants and hosts though, as the same few people can’t keep doing it themselves.

That being said, let’s get started.

Manuel of Well Done Fillet is writing a Restaurant Industry Dictionary, and I must say his entry on Americans is quite flattering. “Brother will fight Sister for the right to serve Americans” he says. Oh if only we felt like that about foreigners here in America….

Tony at Dine in or Take out has learned that not all guests are evil, hateful creatures. He recently served an older couple that he hopes to be like one day.

At El Vermino Blvd, we find out what happened the night the house was broken into. Was the 20% worth it? I think she’s still wondering..

Bitchy Waitress of ‘At least call me Miss…’ has made a recent study of hungry humans. The results are interesting.

bitter of bitterwaitress.com has a great review of a new book, “Turning Tables”. Read the review then buy the book!

Lobster Boy went out to eat recently, and as a server, he noticed everything wrong. It happens to those of us in the industry.

Working the drive thru window with Seafood Suzy. A lesson in patience?

What is it about reservations that make people crazy? Why do people think that making reservations gives them the right to be evil? Restaurant Gal is dealing with a group that is trying to work the system to their advantage. I hate people.

I guess I’m not the only one who thinks that Christians need to re-think things, and that Jesus doesn’t solve all problems. Ryan at I serve idiots has his own opinions on the matter, and I really respect his opinions. Read, and be warned, he might piss some of you off as bad as I do, and that’s a good thing!

Finally, here at Raging Server, I caused a bit of controversy in telling people about the Old Man and the T-shirt. I still say that we were in the right in kicking the old guy out, and that the wearer of the T-Shirt in question wasn’t doing anything wrong. It’s free country after all, and where I work is 18 and up unless there’s adults to supervise the kids. Old man had no right whining about a shirt, especially when there was no kid with him to whine about.

Come back next week, for more of the Round Table. If all goes right, it will be hosted at I Serve Idiots.
